It's been hot and dry this summer, hot and dry for weeks and we have all slowed down. The dogs and I slowed down naturally and we sought the shady places, the cliff tops with small breezes, the still and moving water. we slowed down and we panted unashamedly, we stopped to drink frequently and we learned to measure our walks in moments and events, not miles and minutes. Sometimes we barely walked at all, we ambled and sat and played in the water, we watched the buzzards hanging in the hot air at fields edges as the small
creatures got bolder in their search for food and water. We sat in the dry grass and got bitten by insects and saw lizards basking on an old football. We stopped minding that it was hot. It's been a great summer.
